Tsoureki

During the Easter season in Greece, this braided bread is baked, which consists of a very rich dough with a high sugar and fat content.

Ingredients:

4-5 cups of whole wheat flour 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup milk 3 drops of anise oil 2 pcs egg 1 pk of egg 1 pk crumble 1/4 l of lukewarm water 1 tbsp freshly grated orange peel 1 tbsp aniseed 1 tsp pure vanilla 1 tsp salt boiled eggs dyed red (you can put several, but one will do)

Procedure:

1. Mix the melted butter with the liquid honey and milk, stir the crumbled yeast into the milk when it has cooled, then mix the mixture with the other ingredients and two cups of flour
2. Leave to rise, after 5 minutes add the rest of the flour, work the dough and leave it covered with a cloth to rise in a warm place until the dough doubles in volume, which will take about 45 minutes
3. Let the braid rest for another 20 minutes and rise slightly
5. Bake in an oven heated to 180-190 °C for about 30 minutes, about 10 minutes before the end of baking, brush the surface of the tsoureki with egg beaten with water and sprinkle it with sesame seeds.
