Ripening status of tomatoes to make tomato sauce
Last Updated on
There’s nothing like homemade tomato sauce. And while you can buy it jarred, it’s really not that hard to make your own. All you need are some ripe tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and some herbs.
The first step is to select ripe tomatoes. They should be soft to the touch and slightly red in color. If they’re still green or have any hard spots, they’re not ripe yet and won’t work for this recipe. Once you’ve found some ripe tomatoes, give them a wash and then cut them into small pieces.
Next, heat up some olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Then, add in the garlic and cook until it’s fragrant. Be careful not to let it burn!
After the garlic has cooked, add in the tomatoes and turn the heat down to low. Let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, or until it has thickened. Once it’s done, you can season it with salt, pepper, and any other herbs you like. Basil and oregano are common choices.
This sauce is great on pasta, pizza, or really anything else you can think of
