Recipe to make tomato sauce in the food strainer
Last Updated on
Making your own tomato sauce is simple and easy, and can be a great way to use up any overripe tomatoes you may have. All you need is a food strainer and some basic ingredients. Here’s a recipe to get you started:
Ingredients:
4-5 cups overripe tomatoes, chopped
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
Directions:
1. In a large pot, combine the tomatoes, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook over medium heat until the vegetables are soft and the tomatoes are beginning to break down, about 15 minutes.
2. Place the food strainer over the pot, and strain the tomato mixture into a bowl, being sure to catch all the juices. Discard the solids.
3. Return the tomato juice to the pot, and add the sugar and basil. Cook for another 10 minutes, or until the sauce is the desired thickness.
4. Serve over your favorite pasta or use as a base for pizza or soup
