First, you’ll need to gather your ingredients. For the beef, you’ll need 1-2 lbs of chuck roast. Trim any excess fat and cut the roast into 2-inch cubes. You’ll also need 1 onion, diced, 1 garlic clove, minced, 1 cup of cocktail type rye, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon of smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1 teaspoon of cumin, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
Now, let’s get started on the cooking process. Add all of the ingredients into the crockpot and stir until everything is evenly mixed. Set the crockpot to low and cook for 6-8 hours or until the beef is cooked through and tender.
Once the beef is cooked, use two forks to shred it. Stir in additional salt and pepper to taste. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings. We suggest coleslaw, pickles, and BBQ sauce
