Recipe to make a liquid cough medicine at home with dried spearmint leaves
Last Updated on
Coughing can be extremely frustrating, especially when it seems like nothing is helping. Over-the-counter medicines can be expensive and sometimes don’t work as well as we’d like. Luckily, there’s a natural remedy that’s inexpensive and easy to make at home.
All you need is dried spearmint leaves and water. Spearmint has been used for centuries as a medicinal herb to help relieve respiratory problems, including coughs.
To make the medicine, simply boil a cup of water and add 1-2 teaspoons of dried spearmint leaves. Allow the mixture to steep for 10 minutes, then strain. Drink a small cup of the mixture every 2-3 hours as needed.
This cough syrup can be stored in the fridge for up to a week. If you don’t have dried spearmint leaves, you can also use fresh spearmint leaves or mint tea bags.
When used as directed, this cough syrup is safe for adults and children over the age of 2. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your healthcare provider before using any herbal remedy
