Recipe for tomato and basil pizza or galette
Last Updated on
Pizza and flatbreads are always a hit, whether you’re making them for a group or just for yourself. This recipe for tomato and basil pizza or galette is easy to follow and can be made with either fresh or canned tomatoes. The herbs give the pizza a lovely flavor, and the cheese is always a welcome addition. If you’re using fresh tomatoes, make sure to seeds them before adding them to the dough. Otherwise, your pizza will be too watery.
To make the dough, you’ll need:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup water
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the olive oil and water, and mix until the dough comes together. If it’s too sticky, add more flour; if it’s too dry, add more water. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, then cover it and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare your toppings. For this recipe, you’ll need:
1-2 cups tomato sauce or diced tomatoes
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil or 1 teaspoon dried basil
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Once the dough has rested, roll it out onto a floured surface. Spread the tomato sauce or diced tomatoes over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Sprinkle on the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, then season with black pepper and basil. Fold the edges of the dough up and over the filling, pressing gently to seal.
Bake the pizza or galette for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Slice and serve hot
