Recipe for Sherman’s Deli barley soup recipe
Last Updated on
This is the best barley soup recipe that I have ever come across and it is from the one and only Sherman’s Deli. This particular recipe uses their famous chicken soup as the base, but you could use any broth that you like. I prefer to use low sodium broth so that I can control the amount of salt in the soup. The other ingredients in this fabulous soup are: carrots, celery, onions, garlic, pearl barley, bay leaves, thyme, black pepper, and chicken. You will also need some chicken soup powder (I like Knorr brand) to thicken the soup if it gets too watery.
To make this soup, start by sautéing the carrots, celery, and onions in a large pot with some olive oil. Then add the garlic and sauté for a few more minutes. Next, add the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add the pearl barley and bay leaves and simmer for 30 minutes. Then add the thyme, black pepper, and chicken and simmer for another 15 minutes. Finally, add the chicken soup powder to thicken and adjust the seasoning to your taste. Serve hot with some crusty bread on the side.
This soup is perfect for a winter day or any day when you want a comforting bowl of soup. It is also great for entertaining because it can be made ahead of time and reheated when you are ready to serve
