Recipe for making an authentic Mexican rice seasoning mix
Last Updated on
Authentic Mexican rice is not something you can just throw together. It requires a little bit of time and effort to get the flavors just right. But it’s so worth it when you take that first bite of fluffy, fragrant rice that’s been infused with the perfect blend of spices.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions:
1. Toast the cumin seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes, until they’re fragrant.
2. Grind the toasted seeds in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
3. Mix the ground cumin with the oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
4. Store the seasoning mix in a jar or airtight container.
This mix is perfect for flavoring rice, but it can also be used to season beans, tacos, burritos, and more. Just remember to start with a small amount and add more to taste
