In Spain, fried food is one of the most popular ways of cooking. For some time I had been looking for an alternative a little healthier that did not require liters of oil for each dish. And now I have it: an oil-free deep fryer.

At first I was very skeptical because I remember that the first models that came on the market worked terribly, with more than questionable results. Then I was downhearted because the top rated models are very expensive. And in the end I decided to try the Cecofry Deluxe Rapid Moon oil-free fryer from Cecotec because it costs only 69,90€.

The truth is that I was very surprised by the result, and in this recipe of chicken wings you will see that they are the same as if we submerge them in 2 liters of oil to fry them. I did not expect it at all, but the skin has been very crispy and juicy inside.

The first thing I want to explain to you, before going into the recipe and how to prepare some chicken wings in this oil-free fryer from Cecotec, is that they can be made without a single oil or by adding a few drops to make them a little crispier.

Thedifference is almost negligible, both visually and when eating them. On the left you have the chicken wing made in the fryer without any oil and on the right with just a few drops of oil that we have distributed evenly with the help of a brush.

The answer depends on each one, but I will tell you that although I liked them better with oil, the difference is so small that if you want to save those calories you won’t even notice it in texture and flavor. Nutritional value of chicken

According to the Spanish Nutrition Foundation, “the main component of chicken meat is approximately 70% water. It is followed by proteins with high biological value, given its content in essential amino acids.

Chicken can be considered a lean meat, especially when it is consumed without skin, where an important part of the fat resides. The fat is mostly monounsaturated fat consisting mainly of oleic acid, followed by saturated fat, represented mainly by palmitic acid.

We also find a quantity of polyunsaturated fatty acids, mainly in the form of linoleic acid, variable depending on the poultry’s diet. Chicken meat differs from beef or pork in that its cholesterol content is higher, almost double.

With regard to micronutrients, chicken is a source of minerals such as phosphorus, which contributes to the maintenance of bones and teeth in normal conditions.

The main vitamins present are from the B group, especially niacin and vitamin B6. One serving of chicken provides 73% and 97% respectively of the recommended intakes of niacin for men and women aged 20 to 39 years who practice moderate physical activity.

Current nutritional recommendations advise the consumption of 3 servings a week of lean meats, alternating consumption between different types including chicken.”

Let’s go now to the recipe, which as we have seen can be without any oil or just adding a few drops to get an extra crispy. As it is up to the consumer’s taste I advise you to try both versions and then you can choose the one you like the most.

Ingredients

Chicken wings, 4 Olive oil, 1 tablespoon (optional) Pepper Salt

We brush thewings with olive oil if we want to make them with oil. This step is optional.

Tricks for perfect fried chicken wings

Although this is an extremely simple recipe there are a few tricks to keep in mind when making chicken wings in a deep fryer without oil.

I cook them for 25 minutes at 200ºC because I like them very crispy and toasted on the outside, but after 20 minutes they will be ready. It is convenient to open the fryer pan without oil to see how they are and that everyone takes them out at their favorite time.

Instead of salt and pepper we can leave marinated wings for at least an hour if we want to give them another flavor. I love them barbecued, with a mixture of barbecue sauce and apple cider vinegar 50%. They are left overnight in the refrigerator and then fried as they are, they are brutal.
