Oil-free french fries in deep fryer: healthier and lower calorie recipe recipe

In Spain we love fried food, and I had long wanted to try a slightly healthier alternative that would allow me to make them without so much oil. The solution: an oil-free fryer, one of those that are now so fashionable. But do they really work?

I got the Cecofry Deluxe Rapid Moon oil-less fryer from Cecotec. After much looking I was about to opt for a much more expensive model of another brand, but for 69.90 € (eye that is offer price for Black Friday) seemed to me something much more reasonable.

Nutritional properties of potatoes

According to the Spanish Nutrition Foundation “in the composition of the potato it is worth noting the carbohydrate content, mostly in the form of starch and a small proportion as glucose, fructose and sucrose; Being one of the Vegetable Recipes with the highest starch content explains its caloric intake (88 kcal/100 g of potatoes). Fiber is present in discrete quantities.

It is a source of vitamin C, although a considerable part of it may be lost during the cooking process. To preserve its content, it is advisable to steam or bake them (wrapped in aluminum foil). The amount of vitamin C contained in a medium-sized raw potato is equivalent to 46% of the recommended intake for men and women aged 20 to 39 years with moderate physical activity. Other intakes, such as vitamin B6, cover 21% of the recommended intakes for this population group.

The potato provides minerals such as potassium. This contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and muscles.

The potato also provides carotenoids, being violaxanthin, anteraxanthin, lutein, the most abundant, while neoxanthin, beta-cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin and b-carotenes are found in smaller amounts.”

The result has been fantastic, I honestly did not imagine it would work so well. The fried foods come out perfect, many times without even having to add any oil. My first test was with some french fries, and they are perfect, without having to use practically no oil. I’ll tell you how I made them.

Ingredients

Medium potato, 2 Olive oil, 1 tablespoon Salt

Step 1

Peel and cut the potatoes into long sticks half a centimeter thick.

Step 2

Add thepotatoes to the basket of the Cecotec oil-less fryer, pour a tablespoon of oil on top and stir to distribute the oil.

Step 3

Program the oil-less fryer for 18 minutes at 200ºC and press the start button. After that time, our fries are ready to enjoy.

Within this recipe for making french fries with the oil-free fryer of Cecotec there are many variations that we can do, so it is convenient to take into account all the details in case we want something different.

On top of the oil, we can put nothing. The result is good, but a spoonful of olive oil brings almost no calories and the result improves considerably because we get a much crispier exterior.

Of course the cut of the potato can be thicker or even leaving the skin, no problem. After doing several tests, the thin and long cut is the one that has given me the best results when preparing fries in a fryer without oil, but we can cut thicker. If we do so, we will probably have to increase the cooking time, that must be taken into account.

Finally, don’t forget the type of potato, you will have to choose a frying potato because they contain less starch and so they will stick less together. A good trick is to put them in a bowl of water for five minutes after cutting them, but then dry them very well. This removes the remaining starch and makes them stick together less, perfect for frying without oil.

Of course we can also make this same recipe for fryer without oil with frozen fries. Keep in mind that these potatoes usually already have a small amount of oil in their ingredients, so you won’t have to add anything. They are very practical because we can always have them in the freezer, ready to fry at any time, and they are also great.
