Jansson’s Temptation – Janssons Freestelse

Traditional Swedish dish served at Christmas. It has many variations – sliced potatoes are interspersed with marinated anchovies, pieces of smoked mackerel, cod fillets, etc.

Ingredients:

300 g of cod fillets 200 g cream 100 g of potatoes 2 pcs of onions breadcrumbs butter butter pepper salt

Procedure:

1. Peel the potatoes, slice them into slices, cut the slices into small fries
2. Peel the onion, cut into rounds, fry it in butter until golden
3. Cut the cod fillets into strips, grease the baking dish with butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs
4. Layer potatoes, salt and pepper, top with cod pieces and fried onion rings
5. Fill the dish in this way – there must be a layer of potatoes on top, salt and pepper
6. Place the filled baking dish in the preheated oven, after 20 minutes of baking, pour the cream over the top, turn down the oven and bake for another 20 minutes.

Recommendation:

Serve warm with pickled beetroot, a favourite in Sweden.
