Homemade ham broth, easy recipe for beginners
Total: 10 h 5 min
Both the most traditional and the most avant-garde stews need a good broth as a base and, luckily for everyone, making a homemade ham broth is so easy that it doesn’t even take five minutes of work.
Ingredients
Carrots, 3 Leeks, 1 Celery stick, 1 Turnip, 1 Parsnip, 1 Ham bone, 2 pieces Ham tips, 300 g Water
Step 1
Wash the Vegetable Recipes, cut them into large pieces and put them in the bottom of a pot. In this case we have used a slow cooker, but you can do it in a normal pot on low heat and let it cook for about three hours.
Step 2
Add the pieces of bone and the ham tips. Cover with water, cover the pot and let it run for ten hours on low heat.
Step 3
After this time, remove the ham and Vegetable Recipes and strain the broth. Let it cool in the refrigerator for at least four hours – the easiest way is to leave it overnight. When it cools, the fat will form a solid layer that will be very easy to remove simply with the help of a spoon or by passing it through a strainer again. At this point we can use the broth for whatever we need it for, a soup, a stew, a rice, ….
Step 4
If we want it to be even cleaner, we can clarify it, for this we put it on the fire until it is about to boil, and, at that moment we add a couple of beaten egg whites. We leave it for half an hour and strain it, in this way, any impurities that remain in the broth will stick to the egg white and we will have a clean and crystalline broth.
Notes
It is better not to add salt, since the ham will provide enough and it will always be better if it is bland to be used later in recipes with other salty ingredients such as soy sauce.
