Grandma’s Šumava Muffins

Fried sourdough muffins served with honey and sprinkled with ground poppy seeds mixed with sugar.

Ingredients:

For the dough: 1 kg of plain flour 250 g sweet cream 30 g of yeast 1/2 tsp semolina sugar 3 pcs eggplant pinch of salt frying oil To finish: 1 handful of ground poppy seeds and powdered sugar for sprinkling liquid honey to spread

Procedure:

1. Sift the plain flour into a bowl and make a shallow well, pour in some lukewarm cream, add a pinch of salt, caster sugar, crumbled yeast and leave in a warm place to rise
2. Once the sourdough has formed, pour in the remaining cream, add the beaten eggs at room temperature and make a smooth, shiny dough, which you leave in a warm place under a clean cloth to rise
3. Then, using a spoon, cut out pieces of dough, form them with your hands into loaves about 5 cm in diameter and 3 cm high and fry in hot oil on both sides until golden brown, after removing, let the excess fat drip off on a napkin
4. Once cooled, brush with honey and sprinkle with ground poppy seeds mixed with icing sugar.

Recommendation:

You can also decorate the muffins with a scoop of whipped cream cheese on top.
