English Peas Pesto Pasta with Ham

The natural sweetness and beautiful colour of English peas make them a great addition to pesto. This pesto is easy to prepare and a delicious and light pasta addition.
You can use gutted baked bacon in a dish or leave on the rack for a vegetarian.
What you need
. 1 pound spaghetti or linguine 8 ounces finely chopped ham 2 teaspoons olive oil or butter 1 cup frozen petite green peas, thawed or lightly cooked 3/4 cup packaged shredded basil leaves 1/4 cup fresh shredded Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving 2 cloves garlic, chopped 1/4 cup walnuts, optional 5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste<<
How to make
Place spaghetti or lentils in boiled salted water according to package directions. Drain.
Meanwhile, place 2 teaspoons of olive oil or butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat to lightly brown the ham.
Meanwhile, combine peas, basil, Parmesan cheese, garlic, and walnuts, if using, in a food processor. Run the food processor, adding the olive oil a little at a time until the mixture is finely chopped.
Taste and add salt and pepper if necessary.
Draw hot pasta with chopped ham and pesto. Serve with more Parmesan cheese.
