Great sauce suitable not only for steaks.

Melt butter in a deep pan.

Add finely chopped onion and sauté.

Next, add sliced mushrooms, sautéing to coat (more butter can be added if needed).

Salt and pepper. Simmer the mushrooms, covered, for about 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
5.
Add room temperature cream and let it come to a simmer.
6.
Transfer to a tall bowl and whisk the mixture until smooth.
7.
Serve as a side dish with steaks or as a sauce for pasta.
