A British custard pie is a delicious and easy to make dessert. This pie uses American measurements, so it is perfect for those who want to try something new. The ingredients you will need are:
1 unbaked 9 inch pie crust
2 cups milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (218 degrees C).
In a large saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, and salt.
Once milk has come to a boil, whisk in sugar mixture until it is completely dissolved. Remove from heat.
In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and vanilla extract. Slowly pour hot milk mixture into the eggs, whisking constantly. Pour mixture into pie crust.
Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and continue baking for 35 to 40 minutes, or until custard is set.
Allow to cool before serving. Can be served warm or cold.
This custard pie is delicious on its own, but you can also top it with whipped cream or fresh berries. You can also add raisins to the custard filling before baking, if you like. This pie is best eaten within a few days of being made
