Baba with beans

Old recipe of our grandmothers or great-grandmothers. Baba was also prepared with boiled peas. In Slovakia, baba was made with hail.

Ingredients:

500 g of boiled potatoes 200 g cooked brown beans (canned beans in brine can be used) 100 g smoked pork belly 100 g bacon 2 pcs garlic cloves 1 pc larger onion majorana lard cumin pepper salt

Procedure:

  • Cut the cooked, cooled potatoes into cubes and mix with the cooked beans.
  • Let the chopped onions brown in the lard, add the chopped bacon and smoked pork belly, when the bacon starts to release its fat, remove from the heat and mix the onion, bacon, smoked pork belly mixture with the potatoes and beans.
  • Season the mixture with cumin, marjoram, pepper, salt and crushed garlic.
  • Transfer the beans to a baking dish, place in the preheated oven and allow to bake.
  • Serve the hot dish with sauerkraut.
