A juicy, tasty and also aesthetic cake. It can be made with store-bought dough but homemade is best. Serve with vanilla or caramel ice cream.
1.
Add flour and salt to a medium bowl. Stir and add the cubed butter, crumbling it in the flour with a fork. Progressively add the ice water and keep stirring until the dough begins to come together.
2.
Work the dough with your hands and turn out onto a board. Form into a ball, cover with cling film and refrigerate.
3.
Clean and slice or grate the apples.
4.
Add the sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice to the bowl with the apples. Stir until everything is combined and the apples are coated. Put them in the refrigerator. Preheat the oven to (200 °C).
5.
On a floured board, cut the pie dough in half and roll out both halves to a round shape and a thickness of about 3 mm.
6.
Place the rolled out dough in a greased pie pan and press the edges. Layer the filling firmly on the bottom layer of pastry, cover with the other rolled out part of the pastry. Cut excess dough away from the edges and press the edges together to join the bottom and top dough.
7.
Brush the cake with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar. Cut four slits in the middle of the cake to create an opening.
8.
Bake for 45 – 55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
9.
Let the pie cool completely before slicing. Serve with ice cream. Enjoy!
