A vintage recipe using Crisco or lard to make the filling for donuts and bismarcks
Last Updated on
Ingredients:
1 cup Crisco or lard
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
Cream together Crisco (or lard), sugar, egg, and salt until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla. If the mixture is too thick, add a little milk. Fill a pastry bag fitted with a star tip with the doughnut batter and pipe it into the doughnut molds, filling them about three-quarters full. Put the doughnuts in the fridge for about 30 minutes so that the batter will be firm enough to slice through with a knife.
Bake the doughnuts at 200 degrees F for about 10 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Let cool slightly before removing from the pan.
This vintage recipe for donut filling is so easy to make and only requires a few ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. The lard or Crisco gives the filling a light, fluffy texture that is perfect for doughnuts. You can also use this recipe to make bismarcks or cream puffs. Just pipe the batter into the desired shape and bake according to the recipe instructions
