Blue-toothed clams in white wine sauce
The name “Bluetooth” was chosen after Harald Blåtand (“Blue-toothed”), a 10th century Danish Viking king who was known as a very good talker. Nowadays, everyone knows what bluetooth means. It’s a very handy and convenient way to connect wirelessly. But long before Blue Tooth, there were blue mussels, which are very tasty and easily digestible molluscs. We never say no to tasty food, so we decided to cook blue mussels in a white wine sauce.
When we usually go for seafood, we head to M.V. Wool, or more specifically Mati’s Fishmongers. They always have a great selection of all kinds of seafood and this time we easily found exactly the blue mussels we needed. The blue mussels are also relatively reasonably priced compared to other molluscs. Plus, they contain plenty of beneficial vitamin B12, and vitamins are always good for us.
There’s one thing that speaks in favour of blue mussels – they look great. First of all, they have a very interesting shape, they’re exciting to eat, and thirdly, blueberries are not very often available. If you’re inviting guests and organising a fun wine party, blueberry tartlets will be a must at such a party. They’re especially good served with white wine. Plus, people like to fiddle with blueberry boxes a bit.
Our blueberry boxes came out medium spicy. Our Recipe Box boys like spicy foods. If you like, you can add chilli. Blueberry clams are the kind of dish that can also be cooked very successfully with pasta and a creamier sauce. The mussels were eaten quickly. Next time we know we’ll have to buy at least twice as many, because everyone on our team got to try them now, but I think everyone would have liked more.
If you have a nice weekend coming up with friends, why not treat them to some blueberry tartlets? You’re sure to get a lot of bonus points, as it’s one of the most indescribably delicious and beloved dishes.
