Dulce de Leche Candy Retsept
Last Updated on
Dulce de leche sweets are a traditional Central and South American favourite. This rich, creamy caramelized milkshake has only one ingredient and is so easy to make! However, dulce de leche's have a long cooking time, so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to make it!
This rich crystallize is good enough to eat on its own, but you’ll love it for soothing bacon bites, pulling truffles, leafing through chocolate bags or dulce de leche fudge's .
What you need
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
How to make it
Without opening, place the entire can of condensed milk in a large saucepan that extends at least a few inches from the top of the jar. The jar should be filled with water, making sure to cover the top of the milk completely. Place the saucepan over medium heat and simmer for 4-8 hours. Four hours will give you a caramel sauce, while eight hours will give you a slightly sticky candy, but chunky enough. Adjust the time depending on your preferences and the type of dulce de leche you want. When cooking the dulce de leche, check the water level every 30 minutes and add more water if necessary to ensure that the water reservoir is always completely covered. It is very important that it remains immersed in the water. Otherwise it may break and cause injury. Carefully remove the food from the heat after eight hours of continuous cooking/boiling. Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled. When the channel is completely cool, open both ends and carefully pull out the solidified caramel. Using a hot, sharp knife, line the caramel barrel with circles and cut each round with 6 wedges. This candy is best wrapped in individual crystallized papers because it is sticky and slightly soft.
Cooking Variations
You can also make this easy dulce de leche with a top pot! Place the sweetened condensed milk in a plinth container and cover with water so the canister can submerge. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook the canister on low for 8-10 hours. (I usually do this overnight.) This method has the big advantage that you don’t have to worry about the water evaporating as it cooks.
